I keed, of course.

For all of y’all that were at the Creation Entertainment Star Trek Convention in Cherry Hill, NJ over the
weekend, I hope you had as much fun as I did. If you didn’t see me there, I was the guy sitting in the
back next to these guyz.

Now where else can you see a bunch of grown men and women in Starfleet uniforms taking a smoke
break outside of a hotel? Where else can you run into Number One in the men’s room while going
Number One? Nowhere else! That’s where. Only at a Star Trek convention.

I did get Sir Patrick Stewart to sign one of my comics and I think I managed to only slightly annoy him.

Okay, that part about security didn’t really happen, but I think I really did annoy him a little.

I asked Brent Spiner to sign my Neural Networks textbook (by Simon Haykin) and, when he saw the
book, he just pointed to his head and said, “That’s what I have up here.” But when I tried to give him a
sample of one of my drawings, his response wasn’t quite as favorable:

Yes, he really said that. What FRESH HELL is this? In real life, Brent Spiner is exactly as you would
imagine him to be if you only knew him from his tweets. Very witty. He’s got a one-liner for everything.

Then I got to meet Jonathan Frakes.

*SIGH* Actually, he had a great sense of humor about it.

Next up was Levar Burton. This one didn’t go too well either. I got him to sign my old General
Relativity textbook (Schutz) but, for some reason, he thought that I hadn’t yet paid for the autograph.
So, after he signed my book, I said thank you and turned to walk away and he (quite literally) yelled,
“HEY! YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THE BUSINESS!!!” Those were his exact words. True story.
How awesome is that? I just got (literally) yelled at by Geordi La Forge! What more could a Trek fan
ask for? I felt like Barclay being yelled at in engineering.

I thought of responding to him with my Barclay imitation, “…uh..sorry, Commander. It’s just that I was…
uh… in the holodeck and… uh…” But then his assistant, who was apparently horrified by the
misunderstanding, explained to him that I had already paid. Crisis averted..

I also had a very pleasant encounter with Morgan Gendel, writer of the excellent TNG episode The
Inner Light. He is actually writing a sequel to Inner Light and he is posting it online in comic form. If you
are a fan of that episode, it is a must read. Check it out.

So, yeah, over the weekend I managed to annoy most of the crew of the Enterprise and I almost got into
a fist fight with Geordi La Forge. How was your weekend?
